Do germs cause disease? If not, why am I so sick? Florence Nightingale, a famous nurse from the 1800s, believed that germs were not the cause of illness but rather the result of unhealthy conditions. While there are millions of germs, there are even more beneficial microorganisms in the body. These microorganisms have the ability to repair damaged cells if provided with proper care.
